Plenty of people who want younger-looking skin turn to BOTOX. But if you’re nervous about having a normal BOTOX treatment performed, you might be interested in a trend that has been gaining popularity over the last few years: microdosing BOTOX. What exactly is microdosing BOTOX, and is it the right choice for you? Here’s what you need to know.

How Does Regular BOTOX Work?

A traditional BOTOX treatment involves injecting a set amount of a neuromodulator into specific parts of your face, such as the forehead or the area between the eyes. This temporarily paralyzes the muscles at the injection site. As a result, they no longer make the movements that cause wrinkles to form, thus smoothing out the skin.

How is Microdosing BOTOX Different?

There are a couple of key differences between regular BOTOX and microdosing BOTOX. The first is the amount of neuromodulator used; regular BOTOX usually involves injections of 60 to 80 units, while microdosing BOTOX can be done with as little as 20 to 30 units.

On top of that, the injections for microdosing BOTOX don’t reach the muscles. Instead, the substance is placed just below the surface of the skin. This can help enhance your appearance in a variety of ways, such as making your pores look smaller, evening out skin tone, and reducing the production of oil that can lead to acne breakouts.

What are the Benefits of Microdosing BOTOX?

Microdosing BOTOX may not smooth out wrinkles to the extent that regular BOTOX can, but it’s still an excellent option for patients who would like to make more subtle improvements to the appearance of their skin. Furthermore, because microdosing BOTOX doesn’t paralyze any muscles, you won’t have any trouble moving your face or making a variety of expressions.

Should You Choose Microdosing BOTOX Over Regular BOTOX?

It should be noted that microdosing BOTOX and regular BOTOX do not address the exact same cosmetic issues. Thus, the option that’s right for you largely depends on what kind of changes you are trying to make regarding the appearance of your skin.

That being said, there’s no need to choose between microdosing BOTOX and regular BOTOX in the first place. Both can easily be performed during the same visit, with the amount of neuromodulator used and the depth of the injection being adjusted appropriately.

Do you think microdosing BOTOX or regular BOTOX could help you achieve a more youthful look? Talk to your dentist to learn more about these treatment options and whether you’re a good candidate for them.
